About the teacher, Sandra Zovko
Sandra’s passion for playing the piano—and for music in general—began in her childhood. Thanks to her parents, who found it important for their daughter to learn a musical instrument, she started solfège lessons at a music school when she was six years old. The following year, she began piano lessons.
She pursued secondary music education in Zagreb, Croatia. After moving to the Netherlands, she continued her studies at the Rotterdam Conservatory at the age of 15, under the guidance of Michael Davidson in the Classical Piano department.
Besides playing the piano, she composes both classical and pop/rock/progressive rock music.
In 2013, Sandra founded the classical-inspired rock formation Phoenix Lights, with which she has released an EP and several singles (EP Phoenix Lights, 2015; soundtrack River Soap, 2017; Mirror, 2022; Norah Black, 2023).
She also performs in the prog-rock duo Before The Moon Arrived with cellist Laura Gonzalez Badenes, where she plays piano, sings, and composes. In February 2024, the duo released its debut album, Dreams, which Sandra wrote and produced herself.
In July 2024, Sandra and guitarist Adriel Wilson released their song Appearances under the name LENTE.
Sandra has been teaching students of all ages—beginners and advanced, anyone who wants to learn and grow—for more than 15 years. In addition to piano playing, her lessons also explore other aspects of musicianship, such as musicality, interpretation, composition, and ensemble playing.

Who teaches the lessons?
All lessons are taught by Sandra Zovko, a classically trained pianist and experienced piano teacher specialized in classical, light classical, and pop-rock music. Sandra also composes both classical and contemporary music and performs regularly with her musical projects.
Who are the lessons for?
Piano lessons (classical, light classical, pop-rock) at Sandra Piano Studio are intended for children and adults, beginners and advanced students—anyone who wants to learn and develop.
There is no strict minimum age (though 6 years old is often used as a guideline). Ultimately, it depends on the child and their stage of development.
Where are the lessons held?
Lessons take place at music studios and a music school in Rijswijk and Leiderdorp.
Home lessons are available in Leiden, Rijswijk, and Leiderdorp, but only in exceptional cases (such as disability).
In such cases, lessons via ZOOM (online) are also possible.
What do the lessons look like?
Piano lessons are given individually. For young children, a parent may be present.
Students differ in learning styles—everyone learns in their own way—and this is naturally taken into account during the lessons. Learning by playing, playing by learning!
In addition to piano playing, other aspects of musicianship are addressed, such as musicality, interpretation, composition, and ensemble playing.
How long does a lesson last and how often should I take lessons?
The minimum length of a private lesson is 30 minutes. Lessons of 45 minutes or 60 minutes are also available, depending on your needs and study goals.
Beginners are advised to take a 30-minute lesson every week.
What are the rates?
For lesson rates, see Rates & Conditions below on this page.
How does the subscription/strip card system work?
Sandra Piano Studio works with a monthly subscription and a strip card system.
Lessons are given weekly or biweekly.
Lesson length and frequency can be adjusted monthly in consultation with the teacher.
In some cases, it is possible to arrange lessons more or less frequently.
Cancellation is always possible.
See Rates & Conditions for more information about stopping the lessons.
What if I have to miss a lesson?
Please change the time/day at least 3 days before the agreed lesson.
If the change is made later, the lesson will still be deducted.
If the student does not use the agreed lesson time for any reason, the lesson fee remains due.
Missed lessons are not made up.
If the teacher is absent, the lesson will be made up or a replacement will be arranged.
Refunds of lesson fees are only possible if your teacher fails to provide the lessons.
During school holidays, it is always agreed in advance whether the lesson will take place that week, so it is fine to cancel during vacations (provided it is done 3 days in advance).
Yes! I would like to sign up!
Great! 🙂 To register, you first take a trial lesson. This allows you to meet the teacher and get an idea of how the lessons are structured.
You can also discover whether classical music is what you want to learn, or whether another style suits you better.
After the trial lesson, you may choose to enroll or simply leave it at the trial.
A trial lesson does not oblige you to anything.
Can I occasionally take a lesson online?
Yes, that is possible! Send an email for more information.
I have a question. Where can I ask it?
For any questions, feel free to email sandrapianostudio@gmail.com
See you in class! 🙂
