About the teacher, Sandra Zovko
Sandra’s passion for playing the piano and music in general began in her childhood. Thanks to her parents, who deemed it important for their daughter to learn a musical instrument, she started solfège lessons at a music school when she was 6 years old.
The following year, she began piano lessons.
She pursued secondary music education in Zagreb, Croatia.
Once in the Netherlands, she started at the Rotterdam Conservatory at the age of 15, under the guidance of Michael Davidson, in the classical piano department.
Besides playing the piano, she composes both classical and pop/ rock / progressive rock music.
In 2013, Sandra founded a classical-inspired rock formation, Phoenix Lights, with which she has released an EP and several singles (EP Phoenix Lights, 2015; Soundtrack River Soap, 2017; Mirror 2022; Norah Black, 2023).
In a prog-rock duo with cellist Laura Gonzalez Badenes, “Before The Moon Arrived”, she plays the piano, sings, and composes. With this duo, she performs regularly. In February 2024, she released with Before The Moon Arrived debut album she wrote and produced herself, called “Dreams”.
Sandra has been teaching young and old, beginners and advanced students, anyone who wants to learn and develop, for over 10 years. In addition to playing the piano, other aspects of music making are also addressed in the lessons, such as musicality, interpretation, composing, and ensemble playing.

Who teaches the lessons?
All lessons are taught by Sandra Zovko, a classically trained pianist and piano teacher experienced in classical, light classical, and pop-rock music. Sandra also composes both classical and contemporary music and performs regularly with her bands.
Who are the lessons for?
Piano lessons (classical, light classical, pop-rock) at Sandra Piano Studio are intended for children and adults, beginners and advanced students, as long as you want to learn and develop. There is no real minimum age (though 6 years is often used as a minimum), ultimately it depends on the child and how far they are in their development.
Where are the lessons held?
Lessons are offered at music studios in Rijswijk, Leiderdorp, and Leiden. Home lessons are available in Leiden and Leiderdorp and only in exceptional cases (such as disability). In the latter case, lessons via Skype (online) are also possible.
What do the lessons look like?
Piano lessons are given individually, and in the case of a young child, with a parent(s) present. Students differ in learning styles – everyone is different and learns in a different way, and this is naturally taken into account during the lessons. Learning by playing, playing by learning! In addition to playing the piano, other aspects of music making are also addressed in the lessons, such as musicality, interpretation, composition, and ensemble play.
How long does a lesson last and how often is it recommended to take a lesson?
The minimum length of a private lesson is 30 minutes. It can also be 45 minutes or 60 minutes, depending on your needs and study goals. Beginners are advised to take a 30-minute lesson every week.
What are the rates?
For lesson rates, see Rates & Conditions on this page.
How does the subscription/strip card system work?
Sandra Piano Studio operates with a monthly subscription and strip card. Lessons are given weekly or biweekly. Lesson length and frequency can easily be adjusted monthly in consultation with the teacher. In some cases, it can be agreed to take lessons more or less frequently. Cancellation is always possible. See also Rates & Conditions if you want to stop the lessons.
What do I do if I have to miss a lesson?
Change the time/day at least 3 days before the agreed lesson day/time. If it happens later, the lesson will still be deducted. If the student does not use the agreed lesson time for any reason, the lesson fee is still due. Missed lessons are not made up. If the teacher is absent, this lesson will be made up or a replacement will be arranged. Refunds of lesson fees are only possible if your teacher fails to provide the lessons. During school holidays, it is always agreed in advance whether the lesson will take place that week. So it’s fine to cancel the lesson during vacations (provided it happens 3 days before the normally agreed term).
Yes! I would like to sign up!
Great! 🙂 If you want to register, you can do so by first taking a trial lesson. This way you get to know the teacher and get an idea of how the lessons are structured. You can also discover if it’s really classical music you want to learn or another style of music. During the trial lesson, you can decide to continue with the lessons and enroll or if you prefer to keep it at that trial lesson. A trial lesson obliges you to nothing.
I find it more enjoyable if I can occasionally follow a lesson online. Is that also possible?
Yes, that’s possible! Send an email for more information about this.
I have a question. Where can I ask it?
For any questions, you can always email sandrapianostudio@gmail.com
Thank you!
Love, Sandra
